Classes
Watercolor
Students will learn to create strong compositions working from still life, their original photos, or on location. Color-mixing, paper-stretching, values, washes, wet-in-wet and dry brush technique will be explored. Each student will receive individual instruction to suit his particular need and level. Teacher demonstrations and group critique will further growth for both the advanced and beginning student of this versatile medium.
Drawing
Solid drawing skill is foundational to all art making. With good instruction and practice, anyone can learn to draw or improve existing skill. Working in a variety of media-including charcoal, pencil, and pastel-students will draw from observation. Composition, perspective, proportion, values, and many techniques will be taught. Students will complete numerous drawings, among them at least one full-blown work worthy of framing.
Figure/Portraiture
Working from clothed live models in both drawing and painting mediums, students will learn the basics of capturing the human form on paper. Head structure, proportions, color, values, movement, and more will be fully discussed and demonstrated. Students will do a number of works, including one polished piece.
Portfolio Prep
This is a course for teens ready to begin preparing quality portfolios for college admission. For years Gwendolyn created, wrote and taught Advanced Placement Art, helping students to prepare outstanding portfolios, each containing more than 45 pieces of quality art work done in a single year. Many of her students went on to receive scholarships to MIT, Tulane, Parson's, and other fine institutions because of the work done under her instruction. In this 6-wks Portfolio Prep course what one needs to know to create a fine portfolio will be taught along with some projects sutiable for portfolio inclusion.
